Frequently Asked Questions
Yellow Sapphire (Pukhraj or Pushparaj) is a precious corundum gemstone whose yellow color comes from trace iron impurities. It represents Jupiter (Brihaspati/Guru) in Vedic astrology the most benefic planet, governing wisdom, wealth, marriage, children, and spiritual growth. It belongs to the same mineral family as Blue Sapphire and Ruby.
Yellow Sapphire is widely regarded as one of the safest Navratna gemstones because Jupiter is a natural benefic planet. Many astrologers recommend it universally for prosperity and wisdom. However, for ascendants where Jupiter rules challenging houses (e.g., Taurus or Libra ascendants), it may not be suitable. A brief consultation with a Jyotish astrologer is always advisable before wearing.
Yellow Sapphire is the most commonly recommended gemstone for marriage blessings in Vedic astrology particularly for women. Jupiter (the ruling planet) governs the 7th house of marriage and relationships. A weak or afflicted Jupiter can delay marriage or create obstacles. Wearing a certified Yellow Sapphire strengthens Jupiter’s influence and is believed to attract a suitable life partner, bless existing marriages with harmony, and facilitate timely marriage for those facing delays.
An unheated Yellow Sapphire retains its natural color and clarity as formed in the earth no heat has been applied to alter or enhance it. These are certified as ‘no heat’ or ‘unheated’ by GRS or GIA and command significantly higher prices. Heated Yellow Sapphires have been treated to improve color and/or clarity they are widely used and effective for astrology, but are less potent and less valuable than unheated stones.
Yellow Sapphire should be worn on the index finger (Tarjani) of the right hand, set in 22K or 18K yellow gold. The index finger is associated with Jupiter in palmistry, making it the most appropriate placement for channeling Jupiter’s energy. The stone must be open-backed to touch the skin.
Yes Yellow Sapphire (Jupiter) and Diamond (Venus) can generally be worn together, as Jupiter and Venus are friends in Vedic astrology. Yellow Sapphire also pairs well with Ruby (Sun is Jupiter’s friend) and Pearl (Moon is Jupiter’s friend). Avoid combining with Blue Sapphire without consultation (Saturn and Jupiter are neutral but careful chart analysis is needed).
The minimum recommended weight is 5 Ratti (approximately 4.5 carats). For Jupiter Mahadasha, marriage blessings, or significant wealth-related purposes, 7 to 9 Ratti (6.3 to 8.1 carats) is ideal. The stone should be eye-clean, certified, and natural.
