Diamond (Heera Stone)

हीरा — The Gemstone of Venus | Shukra Ratna

Full Product Description

What is it?

Diamond, known as Heera or Vajra in Sanskrit, is pure crystallized carbon  the simplest yet most extraordinary gemstone on Earth. Formed 100–150 miles beneath the Earth’s surface under extreme heat and pressure over billions of years, Diamond is the hardest natural material known (Mohs 10) and the only gemstone composed of a single element.

In Vedic Jyotish, Diamond is the Navratna stone of Venus (Shukra) the planet of love, beauty, luxury, art, music, romance, and material pleasures. Venus governs the arts, marriage, the reproductive system, and the finer aspects of life. Wearing a genuine, high-quality Diamond amplifies Venus’s blessings  attracting love, elevating lifestyle, and unlocking creative potential.

History & Legend

Diamond’s name derives from the ancient Greek ‘adamas’ meaning unconquerable a fitting tribute to the hardest substance in nature. Ancient Indians called it Vajra (thunderbolt) and Hira, believing it fell from the sky during lightning storms. Sanskrit texts describe Diamond as the gem of Indra (king of gods) and a symbol of invincibility.

The Golconda region of India (modern Hyderabad) was the world’s only significant diamond source until the 18th century  producing legendary stones like the Koh-i-Noor, Hope Diamond, and Regent Diamond. The discovery of South African deposits in 1867 transformed the global diamond market. Today, Russia (Alrosa), Botswana (Debswana), and Canada are the primary producers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Diamond (Heera or Vajra) is pure crystallized carbon  the hardest natural substance on Earth. In Vedic astrology, it represents Venus (Shukra)  the planet of love, luxury, beauty, creativity, and material pleasures. It is most beneficial for Taurus and Libra ascendants.

No Diamond is one of the more powerful Navratna gems and is NOT universally suitable. For several ascendants (Aries, Cancer, Leo, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Pisces), Diamond may be harmful. Always consult a qualified Jyotish astrologer before wearing.

Unlike most Navratna stones, Diamond is effective even at small weights. The minimum recommended is 0.25 carats (approximately 0.28 Ratti). For Venus Mahadasha, 0.50 to 1.00 carat provides stronger effect.

Yes  White Sapphire is the most widely recommended substitute for Diamond in Vedic astrology. It represents Venus’s energy and is available at a fraction of Diamond’s cost. Other substitutes include White Zircon and White Topaz.

A GIA (Gemological Institute of America) certificate is a comprehensive grading report that precisely measures a diamond’s color, clarity, cut, carat weight, fluorescence, and any treatments. Uncertified diamonds have no standardized quality verification. Always purchase diamonds with GIA or IGI certification.

Diamond should be worn on the middle finger of the right hand, set in platinum or white gold. Silver is also acceptable. The setting should be open-backed to allow the stone to touch the skin.

Diamond (Venus) pairs well with Blue Sapphire (Saturn is Venus’s friend) and Emerald (Mercury is Venus’s friend). Diamond should NOT be combined with Ruby (Sun is Venus’s enemy), Pearl (Moon is Venus’s enemy), or Red Coral (Mars is Venus’s enemy) without careful astrological consultation.

Diamond pricing varies enormously: 0.25–0.50 ct (G/VS2): ₹30,000–₹80,000. 0.50–1.00 ct (F/VVS2): ₹80,000–₹3,00,000. 1.00+ ct (D/IF): ₹5,00,000–₹50,00,000+. Prices depend on GIA grades and market conditions.

Care & Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Warm soapy water with soft brush, or professional ultrasonic/steam cleaning. Diamond is the hardest gem and highly resistant to damage.
  • Storage: Store separately diamond can scratch all other gems including other diamonds.
  • Avoid: Extreme impact can cleave a diamond along its crystal planes despite its hardness.
  • Re-energization: Every 6 months using Friday Shukla Paksha Venus ritual.

Substitutes (Upratna)

White Sapphire

Most preferred Venus substitute in Jyotish; corundum family; excellent clarity

White Zircon

High dispersion similar to diamond; good Venus energy; affordable

White Topaz

Clear white stone; mild Venus energy; very affordable

Opal

Used in some traditions as Venus substitute; iridescent beauty

Note: Substitutes carry 10–20% of a genuine Diamond’s astrological potency for Venus. For serious Venus Mahadasha, a natural certified Diamond is strongly preferred.
