What is it?

Blue Sapphire, known as Neelam or Indraneel in Sanskrit, is a precious variety of corundum whose deep blue color comes from iron and titanium impurities. Ranking 9 on the Mohs scale, it is one of the hardest and most durable gemstones. The same mineral species as Yellow Sapphire and Ruby — distinguished only by its iconic blue color.

In Vedic Jyotish, Blue Sapphire is the Navratna stone of Saturn (Shani) — the planet of karma, discipline, hard work, justice, and transformation. Step-by-Step Wearing Ritual

  •       Day & Time: Saturday morning, 1–2 hours after sunrise, during Shukla Paksha. Saturday is Shanivar — ruled by Saturn.
  •       3-Day Trial First: CRITICAL: Before wearing on the finger, keep the stone under your pillow or in your pocket for 3 consecutive days. Observe your dreams, mood, and events. If positive/neutral — proceed. If strongly negative dreams or bad events occur — return the stone.
  •       Purification: Immerse in raw mustard oil or sesame oil (Saturn’s oils) for 30 minutes. Rinse and pat dry with a dark blue or black cloth.

Unlike other gems that work gradually, a suitable Blue Sapphire is said to produce dramatic positive results almost immediately — career leaps, financial recoveries, and life transformations. However, an unsuitable stone can cause equally swift negative effects. This powerful duality makes it the most feared, respected, and carefully prescribed gem in Jyotish.

Yes — absolutely. This is not a formality but a critical safety practice in Vedic gemology. During the trial period (keeping the stone under your pillow or in your pocket), your subconscious and energy field interacts with the stone’s Saturn energy.   •       Cleaning: Warm soapy water with soft brush or professional ultrasonic/steam cleaning. Blue Sapphire (Mohs 9) is very durable.
  •       Storage: Store separately — sapphire can scratch most gems except diamond.
